Jesse Apsaktaun – 2012
Hard worker, Motivated, Honest
Born and raised in Kugaaruk, Nunavut, Jesse is a graduate of the Nunavut Teacher Education Program and has not let anything hold him back. At the age of 28, Jesse is an adult educator at Arctic College and is part of planning committees for various cultural activities, including teaching people how to build Kayaks. Jesse volunteers as a minor hockey coach, is the Youth Committee Chairman and takes his role as husband and father to heart.
A fluent speaker of Inuktitut, Jesse is a strong advocate for Inuit languages and takes the time to teach those who want to learn. He maintains a strong connection to his Elders and values their input when planning activities that bridge the gaps between diverse age groups within the community.
Jesse is described as a good example for the community and says that “I like new things in life and the challenges in life educate you and helps accomplish your goals.”
