Christy Groves – 2010

Christy Groves Artist, Determined, Compassionate Christy is an 18 year old Métis from Forteau, Newfoundland and Labrador. Coming from a creative family, Christy plays the keyboard, guitar and is an artist. Much of her artwork has won provincial, national and international awards. In 2006, she was the feature artist in the first ever Aboriginal Youth Arts Gathering. This opportunity gave her the title of spokesperson to represent the Aboriginal artists in the media. She was also a member of the deal.org, an on-line forum where she provides input and feedback on issues like bullying, violence and racism for the RCMP’s National Youth Strategy. Christy says, “Don’t let anyone tell you can’t; just find your true self, and anything is possible.” She is currently attending Dalhousie University and pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree. |
