Nomination Criteria

The following is a list of criteria for nominating a candidate for the National Aboriginal Role Model Program (NARMP):

  1. The nominator and nominee must be First Nations, Inuit or Métis youths between 13 and 30 years old and must be Canadian citizens.
  2. A minimum of five categories on the nomination form must be filled out about the role model.
  3. The form must include information for three references, who know and agree with the nomination, including a youth (between 13 and 30 years old), a professional (anyone who works) and one other person of your choice.
  4. The form must include a short biography of the role model (1-2 pages) or their resume.
  5. The form must include at least one letter of support from the references (maximum of three).
  6. a) A current employee of the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO), and said employee’s immediate family members**, cannot be nominated or nominate a candidate.

    b) Former employees of NAHO, and their immediate family members**, can nominate or be nominated one year after their employment with NAHO.

  7. a) A current member of NAHO’s Board of Directors, and their immediate family members**, cannot be nominated or nominate a candidate.

    b) A former member of NAHO’s Board of Directors, and their immediate family members**, can be nominated or nominate a candidate one year after their term has ended with the Board.

  8. A current member of the NARMP Advisory Committee cannot be nominated or nominate a candidate until one year after their term on the committee has ended.
  9. Siblings of current role models or the NARMP national spokesperson cannot be nominated as a candidate until one year after their term.

If these criteria are not met, the nomination will not be considered.

** Immediate family members include spouse/partner, daughter/son, sister/brother, step-daughter/son, grandson/daughter, and an adoptive member.

Please note: Members (past or current) of NAHO staff, NAHO’s Board of Directors, NARMP’s Advisory Committee, and past role models can be listed as a reference.
