Channing Lavallé A 21-year-old student at the University of Manitoba, Channing is working toward a degree in Social Work. Her dream is to join the Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Department in Winnipeg. Channing aspires to one day help families who are facing cancer, inspired by her own sister’s battle with the disease. Originally from St. Ambroise, Channing works full-time as a youth co-ordinator at the St. Ambroise Manitoba Metis Federation Youth Centre. To promote her Métis culture, she also volunteers at the St. Ambroise Community Centre for a variety of events. She introduced an Elders baking program to strengthen the relationship between Elders and youth. Channing believes, “Our Aboriginal youth must allow themselves to dream and set goals – commitment and perseverance are the skills that will help you achieve those dreams and goals.” |
