Hi
I am in the process of writing an article on on the unique approach of addressing health disparities for Aboriginal expectant women through the implementation of the Aboriginal Prenatal Wellness Program, incorporating health promotion and wellness and building working partnerships. The unique approach to prenatal care will be described through a cultural safety perspective that is emerging within the Canadian health care system. The paper will discuss the removal of barriers in accessing health services, addressing the issues around limited to no prenatal care, addressing history of Aboriginal people and health disparities, optimizing prenatal care and alleviate problems with pregnancy and the implications in nursing.
Will this topic fit in with your call for papers?
Thanks for your consideration

I have a distant relative Gutsi Cook who is a traditional midwife from Akwesasne-a Mohawk Reserve on the New York /Canada border. She was training some women to become traditional midwives on the Six Nations reserve in Ontario.

I am actually writing a grant to National Geographic about funding a movie that encourages this. I'm interested in getting the word out about what we are all doing to keep birth in our ancestral communities. I miss you all!

This is great news. I am a Métis person who has worked in health care administration for over 20 years. I truly hope this will be a model for all future aboriginal health care in Canada.
