The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) is seeking an individual for the position of Infection Control Advisor. NITHA is a dynamic and evolving healthcare agency that provides health program support to its four northern partners – Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, and Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. The four partners have more than 20 years of combined experience in the provision of health services in the Health Canada “transfer environment” and in the delivery of nursing, public health and primary care treatment services in 33 First Nations communities.

Under the supervision of the Medical Health Officer, The Infection Control Advisor focuses primarily on the provision of comprehensive support in the area of infection control with particular focus on community health programs in collaboration with the Public Health Unit. The incumbent will provide leadership, innovation, and vision in related health areas including but not limited to: administration, clinical practice, education, and research, in order to support effective infection control in the Partners’ organizations. Maintains communication with Federal/Provincial/Regional organizations relating to infection control and related programs, and provides recommendations to the partners. Provides briefing notes, needs assessment reports, community health strategies, and any other reports relevant to this area of practice, as required. Assists in the implementation of infection prevention and control best practices at the health facilities of the NITHA partnership. Supports Managers in the implementation of regular supervision of health workers on infection control. Establishes mechanisms to ensure quality assurance in infection prevention and equipment sterilization. Ensures proper documentation of the sterilization process and outcome including policies, procedures and protocol. Identifies training needs, coordinates and delivers the necessary education in infection control to applicable staff in the Partners’ organizations.

Qualifications and Experience:

The incumbent requires a diploma or undergraduate degree in a health related field. Master’s degree in the health sciences such as public health or epidemiology would be a definite asset as well. A minimum of three years of relevant experience, particularly in the area of infection control is required. Demonstrated leadership qualities and/or experience with working in a First Nations health organization are desirable. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Ability to apply a thorough knowledge of infection control practices to support the design, development and on-going improvement of related programs and services. Ability to identify, plan, develop and implement infection control practices and service delivery through others. Ability to provide advisory services and guidance in matters requiring interpretation of infection control practices and standards and assist with problem-solving. Excellent verbal and communication skills, project manager, trainer and self-starter with the ability to set priorities for own work and meets deadlines.
