Official Status for Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation

The Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band has been formed and members will soon be able to access benefits and services as Status Indians under the Indian Act.

“I’m very excited and I’m very happy. It’s a major accomplishment on behalf of our people and it’s an historic accomplishment,” said Brendan Sheppard, interim chief of the newly formed band and president of the Newfoundland Federation of Indians.
